National Service Scheme (NSS)

Introduction: National Service Scheme (NSS) was introduced in 1969 with the primary objective of developing the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service. ‘Education through Service’ is the purpose of the NSS. The ideological orientation of the NSS is inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. An NSS volunteer places the ‘community’ before ‘self’.

Vision

National Service Scheme (NSS), vision is to build the youth with the mind and spirit to serve society and work for the social uplift of the downtrodden masses of our nation as a movement.

Mission

 The National Service Scheme has the motto “NOT ME BUT YOU” in view of making the youth inspired in the service of the people. Hence NSS aims to “Education Through Community Service and Community Service Through Education”.

Objectives

  • The main objectives of the National Service Scheme (NSS) are:
  • To understand the community in their work.
  • To understand themselves in relation to their community.
  • Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving.
  • To develop a sense of social and civic responsibility.
  • To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
  • To develop the competence required for group – living and sharing of responsibilities.
  • Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
  • Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
  • Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.
  • Practice national integration and social harmony. 

Symbol

The symbol for the NSS has been based on the giant Rath Wheel of the world-famous Konark Sun Temple (The Black Pagoda) situated in Orissa, India. The wheel portrays the cycle of creation, preservation, and release and signifies the movement in life across time and space. The symbol thus stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social change.

Benefits of Being a NSS Volunteer:

A NSS volunteer who takes part in the community service programme would either be a college level or a senior secondary level student. Being an active member these student volunteers would have the exposure and experience to be the following:

  • an accomplished social leader
  • an efficient administrator
  • a person who understands human nature

COLLEGE ACTIVITIES

  • Three one Day NSS camps were organized in the College. Massive cleanliness five was launched in the college campus. Weeds were uprooted and flowery plants were planted in the lawns.
  • 30 Volunteers donated blood in different blood donation camps and were distributed helmets by college administration to appreciate their efforts and promote Road Safety.
  • Seven Days NSS camp was organised from 19-25 March 2025 at  Shiv Temple in Kheri Sampla 50 volunteers participated in the camp. T-Shirt and caps were provided by NSS unit to all the volunteers Awareness campaigns of Blood donation , Beti Padhao , say No to Plastics Ban on Mobiuloe Phones Road safety and Say No to Tobacco were Launched in the village during the camp.
  • One day Workshop on Swachtta was organized on 27 March 2025 in collaboration with Regional Directorate NSS New Delhi 100 Volunteers Participated NSS New Delhi 100 Volunteers Participated Prof. Rajesh Dhankhar Dean Environment sciences delivered Key Note Address and gave tips for cleanliness audit slogan writing competition was also organised and winners were awarded cash prize were awarded cash prize of Rs. 500 RS. 300 and Rs.100 respectively
